GOOD NEWS: Dog Finds New Family After Walking 20 Miles To Visit Former Home

Doggy

When Cathleen the dog’s family moved from their Seminole, Oklahoma home, they couldn’t take their beloved pet with them and gave her to people who lived 20 miles away. But Cathleen’s heart was with her former family and she ran away and went back to her old home to look for them - twice.

After the second escape, the new family said they couldn’t handle it and gave Cathleen to the local shelter. "Cathleen is precious and her original family loved her very much," the Seminole Humane Society/Seminole Animal Shelter wrote in a touching Facebook post. "Her heart wants to be with them but they cannot keep her. We have now stepped in to assist Cathleen on her next journey."

That post really moved people and applications came in from across the U.S. to adopt the six-year-old dog. Alicia Nichole Fields was one of those to apply and even though she lives four hours away in East Texas, her application was chosen to be Cathleen’s new owner.

They’re getting to know each other and it’s going well so far, although Fields is still worried about Cathleen sneaking away to her old home again. So she says just to be extra careful, she’s doing research on GPS dog collars.
