GOOD NEWS: Deaf Dog Becomes Comic Book Superhero To Promote Acceptance

A lot of people passed by a dog at the New Jersey animal shelter for the very reason that music teacher Chris Hannah decided to rescue him - the pooch was deaf. But Hannah’s 10-year-old nephew Kevin is deaf also, so he was happy to adopt the pet, who he named Cole.

Hannah’s students were inspired by his new pup and helped their teacher create a superhero story called “Captain Cochlear and Maestro Mutt,” based on Cole and Kevin. The comic book teaches the importance of learning to accept those who are a little different.

Now Cole is getting ready to be tested to become a certified therapy dog and Hannah plans to take his dog to visit hearing-impaired students to share their comic book. “Some things just happen for a reason,” Hannah says of finding Cole.
