GOOD NEWS: Toddler Heads Home After A Year In The Hospital

Matteo Duran was born with congenital myotonic dystrophy, a genetic disorder that causes muscle weakness. The one-year-old has been getting treatment since birth at Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and now he’s finally been discharged.

The toddler will get care from five in-home nurses and requires a lot of medical equipment, but his family is looking forward to having him in the house after all this time. "We've been waiting for this for a long, long time," says Matteo's father, Luis Duran. “I don’t think he knows exactly what’s happening, but I know he’ll love it in his new room. A room we’ve had ready for a long, long time.”
