Everyone at Bristol University in the U.K. loves Herman Gordon for his positive attitude and he often tells students there that he longs to see his family back in his home country of Jamaica. So they set up a Just Giving page and raised donations to send Herman and his wife there for the first time in four years.
The crowdfunding page calls Herman the “epitome of happiness” and generated nearly $2,000 for the trip. Students gave him the cash and a note thanking him for his “positive energy” over the years, it reads: “You have brightened many of our days and we want you to know that we love and appreciate you.”
Herman broke down in tears when the undergrads gave him the envelope, but they were happy tears. “I don’t know why they did it, but it was an amazing thing to do,” he says. “I still can’t believe it.”
