GOOD NEWS: 7th Grader With Neuromuscular Disorder Scores First Touchdown

Gavin Lambert loves football and plays for the River Ridge Middle School Knights, but the seventh grader has a neuromuscular disorder called Friedreich’s Ataxia has started to take away his ability to walk, talk, see, and hear. He uses a wheelchair to get around some of the time, but his teammates got Gavin on his feet at a recent game and it’s one he’ll never forget.

His team was way ahead, it was the the end of the fourth quarter and Gavin’s fellow football players got him onto the field, where they helped him score his first touchdown ever. Gavin’s teammates helped him with the play and the crowd went wild with the touching touchdown.

“All of these kids that are standing here, they didn’t have to do this,” Gavin says of the incredible players on his team. “They didn’t have to, they wanted to.”
