Man finds Wife's Wedding Ring in the CA ashes

As wildfires burn through California, destroying thousands of homes, one man was able to find a treasured item when he returned to the spot where his home once was. Jake Olsen, an officer with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, was working to evacuate a retirement community when his own house in Paradise, California burned to the ground, and his wife and four children escaped safely, but they had to leave lots of valuables behind.

Olsen’s wife’s wedding ring was among the possessions still in their house when it was engulfed in flames, she had left it on top of a counter in all the chaos. But Olsen and a colleague returned to the spot and searched in the ashes, eventually locating her ring, which he says is “just a miracle.”

“It’s just amazing,” Olsen says. “I just didn’t think we were going to find it, but we had to try.”

The California Wildlife Officers Foundation has set up a GoFundMecampaign to help the Olsen family get back on their feet after losing their home.
