Randy Travis underwent surgery Wednesday evening following a stroke. His spokesman released this statement:
"As a complication of his congestive heart failure, Travis has suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He is in critical condition. We will have updates as they become available. His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support."
Travis has been hospitalized since Sunday. He was initially admitted to Baylor Medical Center at McKinney and diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy, which weakened his heart muscles. Once he was stabilized Travis was transfered to the Heart Hospital Baylor to receive more specialized care. On Tuesday doctors installed a device to help his heart's pumping function. Wednesday morning physicians reported that the singer's condition was improving, but he had congestive heart failure brought on by the cardiomyopathy.
