Dina Underwood and her aunt were searching for a dresser to refurbish when they discovered some priceless heirlooms inside. The Long Island, New York women found old photos and a World War II medal, so they turned to social media to help track down the rightful owners.
Underwood posted a picture of the medal and one photo on Facebook, asking her friends to share and it worked. Eventually the shares made their way to Frank Gomula, the grandson of the man in the photos. He was stunned to discover his grandfather’s photos and medal online and was thrilled to get the mementos back.
“The positive power of social media,” Gomula says. “It was really a good thing. And if it wasn’t for that, it would’ve been lost forever.”
