GOOD NEWS: “Worst Day Ever” Tweet Brings Boost To Bookstore

Business has been slow for independent bookstore Imagined Things in the U.K., so owner Georgia Duffy used social media to try to drum up some sales. She tweeted that the shop had the “worst day ever” in sales and asked people to come buy a card or a book to support the small business.

And people didn’t let her down. Duffy’s plea has been clicked on more than a million times and since it’s gone viral, customers are ordering and business is booming. She says on a normal day she does about a dozen sales, but after the tweet, she sold 70 books in one day. In addition to the public support, author Allison Pearson has offered to give a reading at the store.

“The response has been phenomenal,” Duffy says. "So many people have been in touch with me, sending messages, people placing orders and others just giving us donations, it's been amazing.”
