For the third year in a row, a barber in the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama is helping kids get ready for the new school year. Perfect Line Barber Shop manager Robert Banks is giving out 100 free backpacks and haircuts so students are ready to start the year off right.
Banks hopes his efforts help change the future of his community by showing the kids how much potential they have. And he’s giving them more than a haircut and school supplies, it’s about the feeling they leave with.
"In this community, we have a lack of education, high crime rate, so these children are our future," Banks explains. "So if we can give to the children now, and let them see us giving back, when they get older, they'll give back. It'll be a cycle. It'll be a transformation."
