Woodstock 2019!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, and the concert’s co-creator Michael Lang has confirmed the date and location for a three-day festival celebrating the iconic fest.

The event will take place August 16th, 17th and 18th in Watkins Glen, New York, and while the lineup won’t be announced until February, Lang tells “Rolling Stone” there will be over 40 performers, including some big name headliners. “It’ll be an eclectic bill,” he says. “It’ll be hip-hop and rock and some pop and some of the legacy bands from the original festival.”

Lang also notes that some of the “newer bands,” will take part in “celebrations of artists from the original Woodstock,” like possibly Janis Joplin, the Band, Jefferson Airplane and Joe Cocker. “Having contemporary artists interpret that music would be a really interesting and exciting idea,” he says. “We’re also looking for unique collaborations, maybe some reunions and a lot of new and up-and-coming talent.”

  •  And while Lang did mention some possible “reunions” and “bands from the original Woodstock,” he wasn't specific. He did say folks shouldn’t expect to see Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young to reconcile for a performance. “I’ve talked to them all individually,” he says. “And it’s a mess.”
  • Finally, if fans can’t get to Watkins Glen, or don’t want to deal with the travel or camping, Lang says the concert will be livestreamed online.
