It’s hard not to break into a smile when you see Officer Chad Websterand his crew walk in. The community officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department visits schools, hospitals, and community events with what he calls the Bacon Response Team - his pigs Sergeant Snuggles and Frank. Their goal? To spread joy and help kids get comfortable with the police.
The 44-year-old father of four started his Bacon Response Team about eight months ago after convincing his wife to get a pig, but she says now she and everyone else are totally on board. The piggies are an instant ice breaker and cheer up kids everywhere they visit. Now Frank and Sarge have their own ownInstagram accountand they’re being certifiedofficial therapy pigs.
And when Webster walks in with one pig on a leash and one in a stroller, they get a lot of laughs and some jokes, too. “It’s a pig with a pig,” says Webster. “I get that and I take that head-on!”
