Kim Kardashian Refuses To Speak About OJ Simpson Out Of Respect To His Kids

2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards - Arrivals

Kim Kardashian opened up about her relationship with OJ Simpson for the first time on her BFF Jonathan Cheban's podcast Foodgood: OMFG. Long before Kim was breaking the internet and launching her own crazy successful shapewear line, she was first thrust into the public consciousness when her late father, Robert Kardashian, acted as OJ's legal council during his infamous 1994 murder trial. Robert, along with Kris Jenner, were close friends with OJ and his wife Nicole Brown. After OJ was arrested for Nicole's family, Robert and Kris disagreed over whether they believed he was guilty, ultimately leading to their four kids picking sides, as well.

Kris believed OJ was guilty in the immediate aftermath of Nicole's murder, while Robert decided to stand by his friend and even joined his legal defense team. As a result, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, who were teenagers at the time, based their opinions about OJ's innocence on their Dad's steadfast loyalty to his friend. Kim said she and Kourtney "always thought [their] dad was the smartest person in the world, and he really believed his friend."

While chatting on Jonathan's podcast, Kim revealed the last time she saw OJ "was in Miami. It was before he had gone to jail with this last situation, and I think me, Kourtney and Khloé [Kardashian] were in Miami in a club, and we ran into him in the VIP section. We all, I think, started to cry. It was emotional."

Though OJ's murder trial is undeniably a part of the Kardashian family's story, Kim tries to avoid discussing both OJ and the trial in public. Her reasoning is that she never wants to cause OJ and Nicole's two children, Sydney and Justin, any more pain. "His and Nicole's kids are all so amazing. I'm still somewhat friendly with his children. I don't really talk to them, but I did connect with his son a few years back and I just have respect for them. Their lives must be extremely hard to really go through that. So, I always try to keep myself on that issue and not bring anything up for them," she said.

"There's nothing worse than someone you knew from your childhood just talking about your life," she continued. "I've seen it happen with people that have been close to us, and they start talking about us as kids and they really don't know us now. It gets so frustrating. So I always try to be super respectful and keep to myself on issues and this subject."

However, it does appear that OJ will be addressed in some capacity during the current season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kris will discuss the long running rumors that she and OJ had an affair.
