August 8th is International Cat Day! This is the day we celebrate our feline friends! The International Fund Animal Welfare (IFAW) along with other animal rights groups founded the holiday in 2002 and we’ve had an official day to honor our cats ever since.
Humans have kept cats as pets for over 9,500 years and now they’re the most popular pets in the world. That’s probably a good thing for their owners. It turns out owning a feline is good for your health. It's been reported that cat ownership may improve mental health, provide emotional support, and alleviate feelings of depression, anxiety and loneliness.
