GOOD NEWS: Jeweler Restores Heirloom For Family Who Lost It All In Wildfire

The Thornewood family lost their home and most of their belongings in the recent Camp Fire in California and Heather Thornewood thought a family heirloom was among their lost possessions. A diamond and platinum ring that’s over 100 years old and was handed down to her was missing and the family returned to the ruins of their former home to search for it last month.

They actually managed to find the ring after hours of looking, but Heather was devastated by how badly it was damaged by the wildfire. She says her great-great grandfather made the ring out of a tie-stud and gave it to her great-great grandmother in the early 1900s. The heirloom survived the Great Depression and thanks to the experts at Sharif Jewelers in Sacramento, it has been restored to its former glory.

The jewelers spent hours scraping, polishing, and reshaping the ring to repair the fire damage. Now the sentimental sparkler is back to shining and Heather is so grateful. She says, “I’ll be able to pass it on to my children at some point in time.”
