When Sarah Cummins and her fiance cancelled their wedding a week before they were supposed to walk down the aisle, they were stuck with a nonrefundable wedding dinner for 170 people. So she decided to invite guests from homeless shelters instead.
Cummins contacted homeless shelters near the Carmel, Indiana reception location and invited people to dinner. Some local businesses even donated suits and dresses for the guests to wear. And they dined on bourbon-glazed meatballs, roasted garlic bruschetta, and wedding cake.
For me, it was an opportunity to let these people know they deserved to be at a place like this just as much as everyone else does,” Cummins says.
