Making life easier at the airport

What To Know About Getting Through Airport Screenings Easier: This week saw an all-time high for air travel. The TSA screened nearly three-million travelers on June 23rd alone, the most ever screened in one day. That comes ahead of the Fourth of July week ahead, which the TSA expects to be a record breaking travel week. It expects to screen more than 32-million for the holiday week, nearly five-and-a-half percent higher than last year.

Here are some tips from the TSA to get through the screening quickly:

  • Arrive early, 2 hours for domestic flights and 3 hours for international
  • When it comes to liquids, follow the 3-1-1 rule; Containers of no more than 4 ounces that fit in one quart-sized bag which is stored in one carry-on.
  • Have a government-issued ID and boarding pass prepared for the TSA agent once you reach the front of the line.
  • Valuables (i.e. electronics, jewelry, documents) should be stored in carry-on baggage rather than checked.
  • Stay organized, know which items need to be removed from your baggage by checking with the TSA website.
  • Take your time unpacking and re-packing your bags, The TSA estimates that approximately 90,000 to 100,000 items are left behind at checkpoints each
  • Avoid additional screenings by placing cell phones, keys, change, and other items inside your carry-on baggage before reaching the security checkpoint.
  • Wear clothes and shoes that are easily removable to avoid unnecessary
