Pizza place saved by loyal customer

After nearly 40 years in business, Patty Cox, the owner of Pizza Bell in Elk Grove, California, recently made the difficult decision to close her restaurant, citing rising costs as the reason. But on the restaurant’s last day of business, a local good Samaritan came in and offered to buy the restaurant because it was his wife’s favorite pizza place. Cox was surprised and described the event as a blessing.

The pizzeria, now renamed Patty’s Pizza Shack, reopened this week with a similar menu and staff. The good Samaritan chose the new name to honor Cox's legacy. Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen praised the pizzeria’s new owner’s actions, saying it’s an example of the way the community supports one another in Elk Grove.

For the time being, Cox is staying on at the restaurant in her new role as manager and is excited to welcome back her regular customers. The restaurant will be much like it’s always been, but will be bringing back some features and offerings that haven’t been available since before the pandemic.
