Coach hugs would-be school shooter

Newly released surveillance video shows the dramatic moment when school coachKeanon Lowedisarmed a student who brought a loaded shotgun to high school. It shows Lowe taking the gun from 18-year-old Angel Granados-Diaz and hugging him as another teacher takes the gun away before anyone was injured.

The teen carried the hidden gun, which contained one round, to Parkrose High School in Portland, Oregon on May 17th, 2019. Police think he intended to hurt himself, but he didn’t get the chance. Lowe, a football and track-and-field coach and school security guard, says he saw something in the look in Granados-Diaz’s eyes and that his instincts took over.

“I told him I was there to save him,” Lowe says. “I’m lucky and I’m happy that I was in that classroom for all those kids and I was able to prevent that tragedy.”
