Doug Anderson recently started driving for Uber to help make ends meet and one night he picked up Michael Skinner, a Notre Dame student and the two started talking. Anderson shared that his eleven-year-old daughter, Tori, was born with only one digit on each hand and that the birth defect made her embarrassed and ashamed.
Skinner told the dad about a group of students called e-Nable who may be able to help Tori. They got to work, studying printed designs online and were able to construct 3D-printed hands for her. And now she can pick things up and throw a baseball, all thanks to this chance meeting.
And while Tori tried not to let her limitations get in the way of being a kid, she really loves her new hands. “It’s better this way,” she says.
