GOOD NEWS: Volunteers Rush To Save Beached Whale

When a pilot whale got himself stuck on the beach in Nova Scotia, Canada on New Year’s Day, dozens of volunteers showed up to help get him back to the water. The whale was found on Rainbow Haven Beach and after a plea on Facebook for helping hands, close to a hundred people came out to pitch in.

Volunteers laid a floatation pontoon by the whale and rolled him onto a mat before pulling it to sea. Surfers in wetsuits helped get the whale into deeper water before releasing him.

“The number of people that came out was great and everyone was willing to work together and give this animal its best chance,” saysAndrew Reid of the Marine Animal Response Society. “As far as we know, he left the area and can hopefully find his pod or another pod again.”
