GOOD NEWS: Pope Marries Flight Attendants In Midair

A couple of Chilean Airlines flight attendants were pronounced husband and wife by Pope Francis himself, while in the middle of their flight. The midair ceremony marks the first time a pope has officiated an airborne marriage.

The couple, Paula Podest and Carlos Ciuffardi were planning to be married eight years ago, but an earthquake in Chile caused their church to collapse. They settled for a civil ceremony, but it wasn’t recognized by the Catholic Church. So when they met Pope Francis while he was on board their flight, he asked if they were married, they told their story and he offered to marry them right then.

There was a Chilean cardinal on the flight to produce the required legal document and a witness to make it official. "We can't believe the Pope married us," the groom said. “We have a Vatican document — it's all valid."
