GOOD NEWS: This Italian Village Is Selling Homes For $1.25

Annual Columbus Day Parade Held In New York

If you’ve always dreamed of moving to Italy, this might be your chance. There’s an idyllic village on the island of Sardinia that wants to encourage new neighbors to join the community, so they’re selling homes for just $1.25!

Yes, for less than the cost of a cappuccino, the tiny town of Ollolai will sell you a home there. They’ve had so many folks move away - the population has gone from 2,250 to 1,300 over the last 50 years - that they don’t want to see it turned into a ghost town, so they came up with this clever way to encourage new residents.

Of course, there’s a catch to this sweet deal, but it’s not too bad. Prospective buyers have to agree to renovate the home within three years, which is estimated to cost around $25,000. But for a home on the Mediterranean island, it seems totally worth it. So if you want to get in on the deal, applications must be in by February 7 to the village website.
