GOOD NEWS: He Was Dead For 28-Minutes Before Homeless Man Saved His Life

When George Dakin Jr. dropped to the sidewalk from cardiac arrest six months ago, he was fortunate enough to collapse in front of Austin Davis. Davis was inside CHAMP Homes, a faith-based shelter for homeless people in transitional housing in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and he rushed out and started chest compressions on Dakin.

Davis did CPR for 10 minutes before the EMTs arrived and eventually, after 18 more minutes of CPR and defibrillator shocks, paramedics were able to find a pulse. That means Dakin was technically dead for 28 minutes because of a 100% blockage in his LAD artery, a condition called “the widowmaker.”

To repay Davis for his quick actions and kindness, Dakin’s children started a GoFundMe for Davis. They’ve raised over $15,000 in donations that will help Davis get a vehicle, pay the security deposit and rent on an apartment, get him health insurance and some gas cards.

“I am in awe of the generosity of our friends, family, and total strangers who have banded together to help Austin Davis rise out of homelessness,” says Jodi Dakin Loughlin, George’s daughter. “This is unbelievable. Thank you all so much.”
