GOOD NEWS: Emergency Responders Save Choking Puppy

When a couple in Massachusetts realized their puppy was choking, they ran to the North Reading Police station begging for help. They had just adopted their nine-month-old St. Bernard puppy the day before and didn’t know what to do.

The officers rushed to action, doing a modified “Heimlich maneuver” to dislodge what the dog was choking on, and then firefighters arrived with oxygen to revive the pup. The lifesaving measures worked and the puppy is recovering at the vet.

“You don’t really get trained for a dog at the academy,” explains Officer Jorge Hernandez, “so the only thing going through my mind was ‘Oh my God I hope I’m doing this right.'”
