GOOD NEWS: Woman Leaves $1M To Washington’s National Parks

A woman who loved the outdoors left a lasting gift to Washington state’s three national parks. Officials from the state’s National Park Fund say Bette Wallace left a $1-million donation to the parks.

Wallace grew up in Washington and her niece and trustee of her estate, Cheri Ryan, says in a statement that it was her family’s honor to make the donation on Wallace’s behalf, knowing it’ll be used for many projects.

Mount Rainier and Olympic National Parks plan to use the funds for a computer dispatch system that allows operators to monitor rangers in the wilderness and will improve safety. North Cascades National Park plans to improve infrastructure for volunteers with the money.
