GOOD NEWS: Guy Told His Gold Coin Was Fake Set To Become Millionaire

An anonymous man in New England was told by a dozen people that his gold coin was a worthless fake, but then coin experts verified the antique was in fact real. And it just so happens to be worth millions of dollars.

The 164-year-old coin was minted as a $5 coin during the California Gold Rush in 1854. Records show only 268 were made in the San Francisco Mint, and only three were known to survive. This coin makes the fourth.

“It’s like finding an original Picasso at a garage sale. It’s the discovery of a lifetime,” said Mark Salzberg, Chairman of Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, an organization that verified this coin and has verified over 40 million rare coins since 1987. “It’s the discovery of a lifetime.”
