A woman, gifted moon dust by Neil Armstrong, is suing NASA as a proactive measure to ensure that it remains rightfully hers. As a 10-year-old, Laura Cicco, known then as Laura Murray, had been given a vial of moon dust fresh off Armstrongâs trip to the moon. Her father, a former member of the U.S. Army and FAA pilot was friends with Armstrong at the time. She recently discovered the vial in a box of her parentsâ things and is now suing NASA to make sure it doesnât try to get it back from her.
Just so weâre all on the same page, NASA has yet to try and reclaim Ciccoâs vial. In fact, itâs not known if it even has plans to. The lawsuit is simply a proactive measure on Ciccoâs part to ensure that it wonât try, but even if NASA did, it wouldnât without precedent.
Ciccoâs vial of dust has been analyzed twice to make sure it was the real stuff and scientist think it âlikelyâ is. No word on NASAâs response to the lawsuit as of yet.
