On a recent Alaska Airlines flight, passenger Lynette Scribnerwitnessed a teen help a blind, deaf man communicate. She was so moved by the way the young girl interacted with the stranger that she shared their story in a Facebook post and the touching story is going viral.
When the flight attendants asked if any passengers knew American Sign Language, 15-year-old Clara Daly happily volunteered to put the skills she’d been learning for a year to work. The teen was able to sign one letter at a time into passenger Tim Cook’s hand and he was able to sign back to her.
“I don't know when I've ever seen so many people rally to take care of another human being,” Scribner writes. “All of us in the immediate rows were laughing and smiling and enjoying his obvious delight in having someone to talk to.”
Clara told her mom she thought the encounter was “meant to be” because her original flight was cancelled, resulting in her being on Cook’s plane. And Cook says it was the best trip he’s ever taken.
