GOOD NEWS: Thief Sends $50 To Replace Stop Sign Stolen Decades Earlier

City leaders in Midvale, Utah are trying to solve a mystery. The Public Works department recently received an anonymous letter from someone claiming to be close to 90 and looking for forgiveness for a decades-old offense.

“I’m enclosing this $50 bill to pay for a stop sign I took many years ago, when I was a thoughtless teenager,” the letter reads in part. “Stupid might be a better word for it.”

The letter was postmarked from North Houston, Texas but doesn’t include a return address. Midvale Mayor Robert Hale hopes the letter writer will reveal his or her identity so the city can recognize that person for making amends and setting an example that it’s never too late to do the right thing.
