GOOD NEWS: Police Dept Buys Ice Cream Truck To Give Free Treats To Kids

The Pittsfield Police Department in Massachusetts has a cool new way to connect with the community. After a few years in the making, Operation Copsicle is up and running. The police department bought an ice cream truck so they can hand out frozen treats to locals.

Officer Darren Derby is the man behind the idea for Operation Copsicle. He’s known for his community outreach and he wanted to do more, so he figured free popsicles could be a crowd-pleaser.

"There is no easier way to reach out to kids than through ice cream," Officer Derby says. "The ice cream just gets them there and that's when you can have a conversation and they can ask you about things."
