GOOD NEWS: Elon Musk Donates Nearly Half A Million Dollars To Flint Schools

Flint Community Schools in Michigan will be putting in new water filtration systems for water fountains in all school buildings thanks to a generous donation. Tech billionaire Elon Musk and the Elon Musk Foundation are giving $480,000 to the school district to find a long-term solution to the city’s lead-tainted water problem.

The school system had been using water bottles and water jugs for students in schools, but the donation will allow them to invest in ultraviolet water filtration systems that the district says will disinfect lead and bacteria from water pipes to drinking fountains. They’re supposed to be installed and providing clean, safe water to all 12 schools and the district’s administration offices by the end of January.

“We are deeply grateful for the generosity and the budding partnership between Flint Community Schools, the Musk Foundation and Elon Musk,” says Derrick Lopez, Flint Community Schools Superintendent. “The new water filtration systems will be instrumental in helping our students return to the normalcy of what should be a fundamental right: having access to safe, clean water from water fountains in their school.”
