GOOD NEWS: Trooper Stops Speeding Van, Helps Deliver Baby

After leaving his home near Raleigh, North Carolina, State Highway Patrol Trooper Sergeant Brian Maynard spotted a car speeding past him going about 85 mph. The off-duty officer pulled the car over and discovered the couple inside was in labor and didn’t have time to make it to the hospital, so he helped deliver the baby right there.

Jimmy Baker explained to Maynard that his wife Laura was having a baby and that the baby’s head was pushing through, so the officer grabbed his gloves and a blanket and called EMS. The 15 year veteran officer helped the couple deliver a healthy baby girl.

"I just feel lucky and blessed to have been at the right place at the right time," Maynard says. "For so many years, I've seen a lot of death. To be a part of the process that actually brings a life into this world is absolutely amazing."
