A pair of teenage girls who got lost from their camping group and were missing for six days have been found, thanks to Zoe the police dog.Maya Mirota and Marta Malek failed to meet up with their fellow campers in Ontario’s Algonquin Park, but Zoe led search teams to them.
After about 90 minutes of searching, Zoe picked up a scent and the search crew started calling the 16-year-old girls’ names. The teens responded by blowing a whistle and they were located. Despite days in the park, they were in good physical condition, just dehydrated and covered in bug bites.
Scott Gannon, an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police Canine Unit, says Maya and Marta were “very excited and happy to see us, and we were the same way.” They were also excited to meet Zoe and wanted to pet their rescuer.
