A farmer in Wisconsin thought people could use a little extra sunshine in their lives these days, so he decided to bring it to them from his fields.Scott Thompsonusually grows strawberries in the summer and pumpkins in the fall at Thompson Strawberry Farms, but this year, he swapped those crops and planted 2-million sunflowers instead.
When the pandemic hit, Thompson and his wife wanted to make their customers happy, while following safety guidelines, so they came up with sunflowers as a solution. The millions of blooms can be safely picked by people in their 15-fields on 22-acres all while social distancing.
“I’m just glad we get to have a business people are happy to come to,” the farmer says. “And what a great way to social distance and … smile, basically.”
