A kind-hearted kid is being recognized for a service project she started this spring.Sophia Warfel,a nine-year-old from Tallahassee, Florida, says she wanted to use the spare time she had when COVID-19 came to volunteer and she came up with a project to make care packages for soldiers.
The fourth-grader spent 40 hours and months of hard work collecting and organizing supplies and created 220 care packages that were sent to the 146th Signal Battalion of the Florida National Guard, who are deploying to Europe. And her efforts have earned her a 2020 Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
“It just made me feel really good that I did something good,” Sophia says. “But this was not all about me, it was about someone else.”
