Officers chop wood

Some cops in Canada went above and beyond to help an elderly woman stay warm. Officers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to a call to help paramedics at a home in the small village of Midway, British Columbia. An elderly man was taken to the hospital and one officer thought he should check on the man’s wife.

CorporalJesse O’Donaghey, a spokesman for the district’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police, says what the officer found was heartbreaking. The woman was breaking up household furniture to burn in the wood stove for heat, so he got his colleagues to pitch in to give her something better to burn - firewood.

“The officer immediately rounded up the troops, who travelled into the backcountry to chop wood, which they sorted, split, delivered and stacked for the local elder,” O’Donaghey explains. He adds that he hopes news of this act of kindness will inspire others to step up and help people in need.
