A World War II veteran who worked every day until the pandemic hit last year was honored by his former employer for his birthday. Stop & Shop thankedBenny Ficetofor his dedication to the Edison, New Jersey, store where he worked for more than a decade with a surprise party for his 100th birthday.
His milestone was celebrated at the store with family members, friends and former associates by his side, and a patriotic singing group was there to entertain. The grocery store also unveiled a new veterans-only parking spot named after him. “Benny’s Spot” will give vets easy access to the store and the sign on it reads, “In honor of Benny for his service to the store and his country.”
Even though he’s no longer an employee, Stop & Shop spokespersonStefanie Shumansays, “he’s still part of this family and we will continue to celebrate him.”
