A group of charitable knitters in South Carolina leave around 3-thousand handmade hats, gloves, and scarves out for anyone who is cold to take. In an annual tradition that started four years ago, a group of yarn crafters in upstate South Carolina knit, crochet, and weave cold-weather accessories all year so they can distribute them each New Year's Day to anyone who needs them. They call their group “I am not lost” and their mission is to provide warmth to those in need.
In parks and common areas across the Greenville area, the group hangs their wares in trees and on bridges and fences. Each of the lovingly crafted winter-wear items has an attached tag that reads, “I Am Not Lost. I was handmade for you! If you are cold and need me, please take me!"
Trina Pitts, one of the moderators of the I am Not Lost in the Upstate, SC Area Facebookgroupsays their faith is one of the reasons they’re motivated to give. "We want them to feel the love of Jesus when they take the scarf, or when they put the gloves on, or put a hat on," she says. "We want them to feel that Jesus-warm, that somebody took the time all year long to make it just for them."
