An anonymous donor in Montgomery County, Maryland, donates almost $10-thousand worth of Metro cards to families in need. Last week, Evan Glass, president of the Montgomery County Council announced that a local resident had reached out to him to donate 33 cards worth $300 each for the transit system in and around the Washington D.C. area.
The cards are being distributed to families that are part of the county’s Head Start and Early Head Start childhood education programs and have an annual household income below the federal poverty line. Verna Washington, supervisor of the Head Start program applauded the donation, saying, “It may seem like a small aspect, but this is really huge for them.”
Glass says that access to reliable transportation opens up lots of educational and economic opportunities and will be especially helpful to families in need at this time of year. “This is the holiday season,” he adds. “It’s a time to give back.”
