Mommy Daughter Duo save the day for homeless

A Minneapolis family is on a mission to help people in their community who have the least. For the last seven years, Tynika Smith and her daughter Zekarhia have been distributing food and essentials to people living on the streets in the Twin Cities area.

Every Sunday, the mother and daughter will drive around Minneapolis handing out more than a hundred warm meals along with fresh clothes, medications, and other necessities. "I am a giving person,” Tynika explains. “I love to help when I’m able to, and then also teach my kids not to judge."

Instead of just dumping stuff off for the people she helps, Tynika gets requests for items that are needed. "They ask, you have any more coats, any more tents? So they give specifics on what they need,” she says. She then collects the items with help from generous area donors and distributes them to those in need. Tynika says it’s a big commitment of time, but what they get back in return makes it all worthwhile. She hopes to open a store in the future so people in need can come in and shop for the items they need for free.
