A police officer give a Hug that saves the day

VIDEO I can't even begin to tell you how much this small act of kindness means to me from this officer. I watched this video over and over again and I'm just sobbing. The fact that someone checked on this young man and then, instead of questioning his masculinity or his mood, they just wrapped him in a hug and let him talk it out...even going so far as to let him reach out to them in the future...I am overwhelmed by their love and spirit. In a world where officers never know what to expect and there's so much struggle, it's awe inspiring to see what a little kindness will do in the world. Thank you, young man, for asking for help and thank you, officers for giving it so freely. Bless. "So shines a good deed in a weary world" ~Shakespeare

A Michigan sheriff’s deputy is being praised and inspiring kindness after video is released of him giving a hug to a man in need of help. Macomb County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call about a man sitting in his car on the side of the road. Deputy Jacob Thorne asked the man if everything was okay and he said he just didn’t want to go into work right away and he was talking to his mom on the phone.

After confirming that the visibly distraught man wasn’t suicidal, Thorne asked him if there was anything he could do to help him. “I could use a hug,” the man replies. Thorne, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, says he knows a thing or two about being troubled, so he didn’t hesitate to give the man a hug. “I’ll give you a hug,” the officer says. “Seems like you have a lot going on.”

Thorne says we could all use a little more support and sometimes you just need to talk out your problems. “There’s things that happened to me when I was in the military and I wouldn’t talk about it because I thought it would make me less of a man,” he explains. “Once I got over it and talked, it relieved a lot of stress out of my life.” And he believes that we can all show more care for each other. “When I saw that young man's face,” he says. “I knew he was going through something similar to what I went through back in the day.” And a hug was exactly what the situation called for.
