A group called "The Thousand Dollar Breakfast Club" surprised a Massachusetts waitress with a $2,050 tip. Formed earlier this year, the club consists of members who each contribute a hundred dollars with the aim of collectively tipping a server over a thousand dollars. Richard Brooks, a member of the club, says the purpose of the club is simply to brighten a server's day.
Sori Kola, a 27-year-old waitress at My Diner in Boston, became the most recent lucky recipient of the club's generosity. She’s been working at My Diner for nearly five years and was unaware of the holiday surprise in store for her. She was overwhelmed with emotion when she received the big tip, expressing her shock and gratitude for the generous and unexpected act of kindness. The waitress plans to use the surprise windfall to buy a new car.
The impact of the club's generosity extends beyond just the servers; it's inspiring others to spread kindness in their communities. Brooks says he gets lots of requests to join the group, but with 30 members already, he instead encourages people to start their own clubs in their own towns and cities.
