Francis Ford Coppola Releases “The Outsiders” Audition Tapes For 40th Anniversary: “The Outsiders” was an important film in Hollywood history and Francis Ford Coppola is celebrating its 40th anniversary by releasing the audition tapes of some of the cast. The movie launched the careers of Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, Diane Lane, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon and Emilio Estevez. Now we get to see how raw the talents of the future stars was. In a lengthy social media post with the footage, Coppola notes “It was interesting because each of them was watching their competition, so while it could’ve been a volatile situation, it turned into a very positive one. There emerged the natural respect and sense of colleagueship among them. The result worked beautifully and reminded me of my days as a camp counselor.” See the video below
