Pay your tickets with School Supplies!

The city of Olathe, Kansas, recently introduced a new initiative allowing residents to donate school supplies instead of paying traffic and parking fines. People can donate $15 worth of items like backpacks, markers, and notebooks to receive a $50 credit on their fines. This program aims to support families affected by inflation.

Olathe Municipal Judge Katie McElhinney says the initiative is having a positive impact on the community, helping to address the financial strain caused by rising costs. She stresses that many children in the Olathe School District might not have essential supplies, and this program helps bridge that gap. The initiative also reflects the community's commitment to helping students and their families.

Donations can be made through July 26th, and the court encourages everyone to participate, even those without tickets. The goal is to collect $2-thousand worth of school supplies, benefiting the community and ensuring children have what they need for school.
