Feel like you see Frenchies everywhere these days? That’s probably because the French bulldog is America’s most popular dog breed for the third year in a row, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC).
The world’s largest purebred dog registry uses their registration stats to rank the country’s most popular breeds of the past year and the numbers are now in for 2024.
The Frenchie is enjoying a three-peat after snagging the top spot from the Labrador retriever in 2022, a title the breed had previously held for 31 years. People love their playful nature and compact size, making them especially popular in cities.
The AKC recognizes 201 breeds and their least popular ones are often rare breeds. The English foxhound comes in 201st, making it the least popular overall, followed by the Bergamasco sheepdog and the grand basset griffon vendeen.
