More OKCPS Schools Added To Virtual Learning List

Oklahoma City Public Schools has updated the list of schools that are going virtual to the spike in COVID-19 cases.

The following schools are shifting to virtual learning:

  • Coolidge Elementary
  • Taft Middle School
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary
  • FD Moon Middle School

The Superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools, Sean McDaniel, said that the district is continuing to monitor the situation and more schools will likely be added to the list if things don't change. They are scheduled to meet again this evening.

"OKCPS school and district leaders have been monitoring COVID-19 cases and staff and student absences over the weekend. Unfortunately, we continue to see a significant number of our teachers, instructional staff and students out across the district due to illness or other circumstances. The difficult decision has been made to move Coolidge Elementary and Taft Middle School (main campus and 5th grade center) to asynchronous learning for January 10th through 14th.

As a reminder, asynchronous instruction means that students will log in to Canvas and complete lessons and assignments on their own. Teachers may provide materials for reading, videos to view, notes to study, assignments to complete, activities, assessments, or allow for independent work time. We believe this will allow our families as much flexibility as possible as students can log in and complete the daily assignments in a self-paced manner at any time during the day or evening. It is important that all students login and complete your assignments each day in order to be counted present.

Please watch closely for any additional information that may come from your child’s teacher or your school’s principal in the next several days.

If our staffing levels and COVID-19 case data shows we can bring students back to in-person learning sooner than Tuesday, January 18th, we will let families know as soon as possible. As a reminder, schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 17th to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

As a reminder, curbside meal service, including a breakfast and a lunch, will be available at no cost to students at Coolidge Elementary School and Taft Middle School from 10:30am - 12:30pm each day.

If at any time your student becomes ill or develops symptoms of COVID-19 -- even while they are home for virtual learning -- please go ahead and call your child's school for further instructions.

The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority and we thank you for your continued support of OKCPS."
