When Wisconsin police officer Lindsey Bittorf came across aFacebook post by a mom searching the public for a potential kidney donor for her eight-year-old son, she went above the call of duty to help a complete stranger. Officer Bittorf was moved by Kristi Goll’s post about her son, Jackson, so she decided to get tested to see if she was a match.
Bittorf hadn’t ever met this family before, but knowing Jackson was in desperate need, she was willing to help them. Doctors were “shocked” to find out someone not related was such a good match for the boy.
When Officer Bittorf shared the happy news with the family, she told him, “I took an oath to serve and protect the community, and now my kidney’s going to serve and protect you.”
