A Pensacola, Florida community comes together to grant a wish for a teen battling bone cancer. Last October, 13-year-old Gauge Townsend was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. He had to undergo surgery to have muscle removed from his leg and had his femur replaced with a metal rod. When Covenant Care Foundation found out about the teen, they wanted to do something to support him.
Covenant Care has a program called “My Wish,” which is like a local version of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The program grants wishes to people battling terminal illness or chronic disease. Gauge had the modest wish of getting a private viewing of the new “The Batman” movie with a group of his friends, but the foundation did him one better.
One morning earlier this week, Gauge and some friends were picked up in a limousine and taken to the theater where they were greeted by a crowd of around 75 costumed superheroes of all ages. There were Batmen, Batwomen, Supergirls, and more, all cheering the guest of honor. Gauge was given a key to the city—the city of Gotham, that is—and he was smiling from ear to ear. “This is so cool. I had no idea this was going to happen.," the happy teen says.
