WOMAN ALMOST THROWS AWAY DIAMOND

A woman in the UK had been keeping a large stone in a box with other low-value costume jewelry and decided to throw it out. A neighbor convinced the 70-year-old to have it appraised before she put it in the trash, and it’s a good thing; Featonby’s Auctioneers also thought it was cubic zirconia at first, but after several days a diamond tester showed it was the real thing.

The stone is a 34-carat diamond, the largest-value item the appraiser has ever received. It’s being stored until November 30 when it’s set to be auctioned off. The unnamed woman, who buys trinkets at garage sales for fun, will most likely be a millionaire by December; the stone is valued at $2,741,520.
